What: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Thursday expelled minister Partha Chatterjee from her state cabinet.
Why: This expulsion comes after the former minister has been found guilty of his involvement in the massive State Service Commission (SSC) recruitment scam.
Who: Partha Chatterjee, held the post of general-secretary of the ruling party, TMC. As the cabinet minister, he held the portfolios of commerce & industry, parliamentary affairs.
Background: The decision to expel Chatterjee comes a day after the ED recovered nearly rs 50 crore in cash and gold from apartments linked to Chatterjee's close associate Arpita Mukherjee.
