Maldives President in India for bilateral talk and strategic ties

  • What: Maldives president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is on a four-day official visit to India to participate in the bilateral meetings, accompanied by high-level officials and business delegations.

  • Major Highlights of Bilateral Talk:

  1. India and Maldives signed six pacts to facilitate cooperation in capacity building, cyber security, housing, disaster management, and management.

  2. PM Narendra Modi stated that India will extend an additional $100 million line of credit to the Maldives.

  3. Solih reiterated his country’s “firm commitment to deal with the threat of terrorism”.

  • External Affairs Minister’s statement: S.Jaishankar said India’s ’Neighbourhood First’ policy and Maldive’s ‘India First policy’ are complementary that take the special partnership forward.
