The Strategic Forces Command (SFC) today conducted the first user trial of the Agni V ballistic missile. The launch took place from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha.
The missile reached 5,000 km target within the stipulated time of 15-18 mins. The missile was tracked by telemetry and radar ships of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
In the background of the rising Chinese ballistic missile capacity, today's successful Agni V is seen as a crucial step in strengthening ballistic capability.
The Agni V missile is a three stage solid fueled surface to surface missile with advanced guidance systems.
