'Govt not in favour of ending WhatsApp's encryption': IT Minister
In an interview on Friday, Union Information Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad stated that India is not the only country that is seeking to collect only 'limited' data from end-to-end encryption social media platforms like WhatsApp.
He further stated that such restricted data collection would help in detecting and further, preventing crime.
This statement came in response to WhatsApp challenging the Government's move stating that this end-to-end encryption ensures freedom of speech and expression for citizens, without any fear.
Minister said that the government respects the privacy of it's citizens and will follow the guidelines of the Supreme Court on the same .
