Govt. hikes MSP for rabi crops

  • On Wednesday, the Government of India approved the hike in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for rabi crops.

  • Wheat and mustard are major rabi crops.

  • The MSP for wheat has been increased by ₹40 to ₹2,015 per quintal.

  • The MSP for mustard has been increased by ₹400 to ₹5,050 per quintal.

  • The hike in MSP is about 2% which is the lowest in a decade.

  • The MSP of barley has been hiked by ₹35 to ₹1,635 per quintal for the 2021-22 crop year.

  • The MSP for gram has also been increased by ₹130 to ₹5,230 per quintal.

  • "The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all mandated rabi crops for rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2022-23,” an official statement said.
