Government yet to consider booster shots

  • A consortium of twenty-eight laboratories has recommended that the government consider vaccinating people above 40 years of age with booster shots.

  • The consortium recommended mandatory vaccination to unvaccinated people at risk since lower antibodies will be ineffective in resisting infections from the new Omicron variant.

  • Evidence from INSACOG claims that the newly arrived Omicron variant may increase the risks of reinfection.

  • There has also been a recommendation of monitoring and restricting travel from Covid-19 affected regions in the country.

  • The U.S and U.K have already cleared the path of a booster dose.

  • The Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya confirmed in the Lok Sabha that booster vaccines would be undertaken scientifically.
