On Friday, the government of India was urged to regulate online gaming by the BJP MP Sushil Kumar Modi. Modi urged that the platforms should be controlled through taxation.
Modi also told Rajya Sabha that gaming is a significant source of addiction for many youngsters.
Online gaming increased by more than four and a half hours, an 11 per cent rise since the pre-covid period. India saw the most many downloads of causal mobile gaming in India, succeeding China in 2020.
States like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala previously banned online gaming, which the court struck down such a provision.
Many investors since the onset of the pandemic have invested in ‘real world gaming’. Gaming sites like Dream 11 earned a profit of Rs 180 crore for FY2020.
