Government bans 54 Chinese apps. Find out why

• The Government of India has issued an order to ban 54 Chinese apps, with the reason that these apps pose a serious threat to the national security of the country.

• The list of banned apps include - Sweet Selfie HD, Beauty Camera - Selfie Camera, Garena Free Fire - Illuminate, Viva Video Editor, Tencent Xriver, Onmyoji Arena, AppLock and Dual Space Lite.

• In June of 2021, the Government had banned 59 Chinese apps citing the same reason. These apps included the widely used TikTok app, WeChat, Helo among others.

• "These 54 apps allegedly obtain various critical permissions and collects sensitive user data. These collected real-time data are being misused and transmitted to servers located in hostile country," the government has stated.

• In total 321 Chinese apps have been blocked since the border tensions emerged in 2020 between India and China.
