French city ‘Bitche’ has its Facebook page taken down accidentally because of its name

• Bitche is the name of a city in northeastern France and its residents were taken aback when the city’s Facebook page was been taken down.

• The reason given was that the page had violated terms and conditions of the social media platform.

• The residents of the city were stumped about it and were quite sure that they had done nothing to warrant this move but soon realized that they only had the city’s name to blame.

• Valerie Degouy, the city’s communication manager attempted to contact Facebook after the page “Ville de Bitche” was pulled down out of the blue on 19th March.

• This peculiar problem soon gained media traction. Following this, Facebook admitted that the page was removed in error and reinstated it.
