  • Zhang Zhan, a lawyer by profession and citizen journalist was jailed last year for her attempts of reporting the Covid-19 outbreak in Wuhan

  • While recording videos on her smartphone, Zhan was seen asking the authorities about the outbreak and their response

  • She was detained in May 2020 and sentenced in December to four years in jail for "picking quarrels and provoking trouble" -- a charge routinely used to suppress dissent

  • Her brother has stated that it is difficult that she would survive this winter
