Free vaccines and food grains will cost Rs 1.15 lakh crores extra in FY22

  • Following the Prime Minister's annoucement on Monday to provide free vaccines to all citizens above 18 years, starting June 21- is going to cost the government an additional Rs 15,000 crores.

  • This would be in addition to the Rs 35,000 crores amount already allocated for vaccine in the Budget of Financial Year 2021-22.

  • A senior government official told the Indian Express, that although the final stats aren't there yet, but the amount to be spent on vaccines this year- would be around Rs45,000 to 50,000 crores.

  • In addition to this, PM's decision to extend the scheme of providing food grains for free to 80 crore people, till November- will also cost an additional Rs 1-1.3 lakh crore.
