France passes ‘Anti-Radicalism’ Bill

  • Lawmakers in the French Parliament’s lower house overwhelmingly passed a bill that would strengthen the oversight of mosques, schools and sports club to safeguard the nation from what they termed as radical Islamism.

  • This bill also aims to regulate and install a respect for French values in the citizens, one of the aims of this project of President Macron.

  • The bill passed with 347-151, with 65 abstentions. This came after two weeks of core debates in the Parliament.

  • The bill titled ‘Supporting respect for the principles of the Republic’ covers almost all aspects of the French life and has been seen by many as the state intruding the freedom of individuals.
