On Friday thousands of farmers showed up for a meeting in Shamli district in Western Uttar Pradesh amid a growing uproar against the farm laws.
The meeting was being held in Shamli’s Bhainwal village. People were reaching on their two and four wheelers, their tractors as well as on foot for a ‘kisan panchayat’ being held there by the Rashtriya Lok Dal.
Shamli administration had not granted permission for any meeting and had even imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC to stop people from coming together however people still turned up in large numbers for the meeting.
This was the fourth major farmers’ meeting to take place in Western Uttar Pradesh after Muzaffarnagar, Mathura and Bhagpat to support the ongoing stir against the farm laws.
Among those who attended the meeting were Bharatiya Kisan Union members and RLD vice president Jayant Chaudhary. Security personnel’s were also deployed in large numbers in the area.
