
Ford to stop manufacturing vehicles in India, factories to be shut down
On Thursday, Ford India announced the shutting down of its vehicle manufacturing plants in India.
Ford will stop manufacturing its cars in India.
Ford has manufacturing plants at two locations in India namely Chennai (Maraimalainagar) and Gujarat (Sanand).
The shutting down of plants result in the loss of jobs for about 4,000 employees.
“Ford India will cease manufacturing vehicles for sale in India immediately…[the company] will wind down vehicle assembly in Sanand by the fourth quarter of 2021 and vehicle and engine manufacturing in Chennai by the second quarter of 2022,” the company said in a statement.
Ford will continue to sell vehicles in India by importing them.
The company dealers have reportedly invested over ₹2000 crores in creating the sales infrastructure.
