FM Sitharaman asks power, mines and atomic energy sectors to scale up capex for FY2020-21

  • During a meeting with secretaries of the Ministries of Power, Mines and department of Atomic Energy and the chairman and managing directors of 10 CPSEs belonging to these ministries, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam has asked these public sector units to raise capital expenditure for FY 2020-21 and FY 2021-22 in order to achieve 75% of the targeted amount by the third quarter and then consequently achieving 100% by the end of the fiscal year.

  • ₹61,483 crores is the amount set as targeted amount for scaling up capital expenditures.

  • “Capex by CPSEs was a critical driver of economic growth and needed to be scaled up. More efforts are still required to achieve the target of 75% capex by Q3 and more than 100% by Q4 of the FY 21,” the finance minister said.
