On Tuesday Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan ordered a floor test to ascertain the majority of the ruling Congress-led coalition on the floor of the House amid political turmoil in Puducherry. LG informed that the floor test is to be done by 5 pm on February 22nd.
An official statement was issued by the LG in which he stated that both the ruling coalition and Opposition have s strength of 14 members each in the legislative assembly, thus necessitating a floor test in the 30-member legislative assembly, where 16 is the magic number.
According to the statement, voting shall take place by show of hands and the proceedings will be videotaped.
This incident happened mere hours after Soundararajan took an oath as Kiran Bedi’s successors and took charged as the LG of the Union Territory where legislative assembly elections are likely to take place in April-May.
Kiran Bedi’s removal from the office came all of sudden on Tuesday night. She was said to be often engaged in a tussle with CM V. Narayansamy.
