Five security personnel killed in attack on UN convoy in Afghanistan

  • The deaths of five security personnel have been reported in an attack on the Kabul-Jalalabad road while escorting a United Nation’s convoy. The deceased belonged to the Directorate of Protection Services.

  • United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan reported the incident on Thursday night tweeting, “The Un family in Afghanistan mourns to loss of five Afghan Directorate of Protection Service personnel in an incident today in Surobi district of Kabul. No Un personnel were hurt, or vehicle affected in an attack that hit a DPS vehicle that was escorting a UN convoy”.

  • The incident reportedly occurred in the Tangi Abreshum area of Surobi district around 10 am on Thursday.

  • The UN Security Council condemned the alarming number of attacks deliberately targeting civilians in Afghanistan, that have been happening since the start of the Afghanistan peace negotiations, September 2020. The council stressed on urgent need to bring the perpetrators to justice and also called for an immediate end to these attacks.

  • The Afghanistan peace negotiations are going on in a bid to end the ongoing war in Afghanistan. US, India, China, Russia, as well as NATO play a huge role in facilitating the peace process.
