What: Former Finance Minister Sunak was the front-runner in the early voting, and his party overwhelmingly supported him. Truss, though, emerged as the overwhelming favourite to succeed Boris Johnson as head of the ruling Conservative Party and UK prime minister as the election reached the national level.
Election process: The Conservative legislators chose Sunak and Truss as the two candidates after multiple voting rounds. A postal ballot voting was subsequently conducted among the final two candidates by the approximately 180,000 members of the party nationwide.
Results: Whoever received the most votes from party members around the nation is declared the winner. It'll be announced on 5th September.
