Family of member of Indian Women’s Hockey team targeted for caste identity

• Indian Women’s hockey team lost to Argentina in the semi-final match at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday.

• After the defeat Vandana Kataryiya’s family was attacked at their hometown in Haridwar by two men belonging to the upper cast.

• The men are said to have burst crackers, danced to mock the family and hurled casteist abuses at the family in front of their residence at Roshnabad Village.

• The men are said to have stated that the team lost because there are too many Dalits in the team.

• Katariya’s family has filed an FIR against the men who attacked them.
