Fabindia removes ad after backlash over use of Urdu word
• On Monday, clothing and furnishing brand Fabindia removed a tweet promoting its Diwali collection after objection from social media users and BJP leaders on the use of an Urdu phrase to describe the festival.
• Fabindia called Diwali “Jashn-e-Riwaaz” in its tweet after reading which several social media users called for a boycott of the company and claimed that the Urdu phrase has been used to hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community.
• BJP MP Tejasvi Surya tweeted, “Diwali is not Jashn-e-Riwaaz. This deliberate attempt of abrahamisation of Hindu festivals, depicting models without traditional attires, must be called out.”
