Every child has the right to use mother’s surname: Delhi HC

  • The Delhi High Court ruled on Friday that a father does not own his daughter and that every kid has the right to use his or her mother's surname.

  • The judge made the comment while hearing a request from the father of a minor girl for the authorities to reflect his name as his daughter's surname on papers rather than her mother's name.

  • Justice Rekha Palli, on the other hand, refused to issue such an order, stating, "A father does not possess the daughter to demand that she use solely his surname." What's the big deal if the young daughter likes her surname?

  • According to the court, every kid has the right to use his or her mother's surname if he or she so desires.
