Essay by U.S. experts says virus was made in lab

• An essay has been written by two U.S. experts stating that coronavirus was made inside a Chinese laboratory.

• The claim was made by Dr. Stephen Quay and Richard Muller in The Wall Street Journal on Sunday.

• They wrote, “The most compelling reason to favor the lab leak hypothesis is firmly based in science. Coronavirus has a genetic footprint that has never been observed in a natural coronavirus.

• It has been noted that coronavirus has the genome sequencing ‘CGG-CGG’, which is one of 36 sequencing patterns. The experts have informed that no naturally occurring coronavirus- such as SARS and MERS- has never had a ‘CGG-CGG’ combination.

• The essay reportedly came after a study last week that claimed that the virus was created by Chinese scientists in the Wuhan lab and then tried to cover their tracks by reverse engineering versions of the virus to make it seem like the virus evolved naturally from bats.

• It was concluded by the two experts that the unnatural combination which was used by the human researchers implied that the origin of the coronavirus must be laboratory escape.
