#Elections2022: Phase 1 of UP polls begins. Read all details

  • The first phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections began today, which witnessed 57.79% voter turnout till 5:30 pm today.

  • In the first phase, polling took place for 58 seats, including constituencies in the western parts of the state, which witnessed strong wave of the farmers protest.

  • Among the prominent candidates in the first phase are Pankaj Singh, sitting MLA from Noida and son of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Baby Rani Maurya, former Uttarakhand governor who is contesting from Agra Rural.

  • There were some instances of EVM and VVPAT malfunctioning, which the Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla stated were being addressed immediately.
