#Elections2022: Expelled from Congress, former Uttarakhand party chief joins BJP

  • Former Uttarakhand Congress chief, Kishore Upadhyay, joined BJP a day after he was expelled from the Congress party.

  • The Congress expelled Upadhyay for his 'anti-party activities'. Since you had been indulging in anti-party activities despite several warnings, so you are hereby expelled from the primary membership of Congress party for six years with immediate effect,"stated the party's letter to Upadhyay.

  • He stated that he has decided to join BJP in the spirit of taking the state forward. He added that one 'should question Congress as to why this situation arose'.

  • In signs that he was thinking of changing parties, Mr Upadhyay had met with Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, the BJP's Uttarakhand election in-charge, earlier this month. It is likely that the BJP will field him from Tehri, from where he has won twice, in the coming February 14 elections.
