Former Uttarakhand Congress chief, Kishore Upadhyay, joined BJP a day after he was expelled from the Congress party.
The Congress expelled Upadhyay for his 'anti-party activities'. Since you had been indulging in anti-party activities despite several warnings, so you are hereby expelled from the primary membership of Congress party for six years with immediate effect,"stated the party's letter to Upadhyay.
He stated that he has decided to join BJP in the spirit of taking the state forward. He added that one 'should question Congress as to why this situation arose'.
In signs that he was thinking of changing parties, Mr Upadhyay had met with Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, the BJP's Uttarakhand election in-charge, earlier this month. It is likely that the BJP will field him from Tehri, from where he has won twice, in the coming February 14 elections.
