In an electoral announcement today, the BJP announced that it will initiate the process of implementing a Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand if it voted to power.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced this electoral promise via video conferencing. He further added that this will help in the preservation of the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of the state.
“Soon after its swearing-in, new BJP govt will form a committee consisting of judicial people, retired people, intellectual people of the society and other stakeholders to prepare a draft of Uniform Civil Code in the state. This UCC will provide for same laws regarding marriages, divorce, land-property & inheritance for all people, irrespective of their faith,” said Dhami.
This announcement comes just two days before the state is scheduled to go for assembly elections on February 14. The results of the poll will be announced on March 10.
