Election Commission extends ban on physical rallies and roadshows until 22 January, 2022

  • The Election Commission of India met virtually today with the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as well as the Chief Secretaries and Health Secretaries of Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh, as well as the Chief Electoral Officers of these five polling states.

  • Shri Sushil Chandra, Chief Election Commissioner, accompanied by Election Commissioners Shri Rajiv Kumar and Shri Anup Chandra Pandey, Secretary General, and concerned Deputy Election Commissioners, conducted a comprehensive review of the current status and projected trends of the COVID pandemic, with a special focus on the five polling states. The status of immunisation and the action plan for finishing the first, second, and booster doses for eligible people among frontline workers and polling officials were also evaluated.
