ED directed to take no coercive action against Newsclick Founder: Delhi HC

  • No coercive action will be taken against Newsclick founder and editor-in-chief in connection with a money laundering case, the Delhi High Court said on Thursday.

  • Justice Mukta Gupta said Prabir Purkayastha's temporary protection will remain in place till the next hearing on September 2.

  • The judge ordered that no coercive action be taken (against the applicant) in the bail application until the next date of hearing... subject to him joining the inquiry.

  • In response to a request by ED's lawyer, the hearing on Purkayastha's motion for anticipatory bail in a money laundering case was delayed.

  • To date, ED has not yet provided copies of its ECIR to parties affected, according to the court's record of proceedings.

  • According to the high court, the ED had been ordered not to take any coercive action against the news portal and its editor in chief.
