The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has informed the High Court of Delhi via affidavit that, in light of the current COVID pandemic situation, it has recommended to the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi to provide at least three meals per day to children living in shelter homes.
"We further propose to the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi that, as and when the budgetary situation permits, they offer three meals a day to homeless individuals residing in shelter houses," the DSUIB affidavit states.
The DSUIB answer came in response to a PIL that requested three times healthy meals and a vaccination camp for homeless persons.
The Delhi High Court had previously sought the Delhi Government's and DSUIB's responses to a petition seeking a directive to provide three healthy meals per day, including breakfast, to the homeless at Delhi's shelter houses.
After the petition requested time to file a rebuttal affidavit in the case, a bench of Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh delayed the hearing till September 27.
