“Disbanded Muslim regiment a lie” : Veterans write to PM and President

  • A group of 120 retired Indian Army , India Navy and Indian Airforce officer have written to the Prime Minister Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind in order to bring into notice a widely circulated social media post denigrating India's Muslim soldiers which may adversely affect the armed forces' morale.

  • The post has been posted from a Facebook account, active since 2013 and has been revived amid the growing Indo-Sino border tensions. The post has been shared widely and makes false claims that “Muslim Regiment” was “disbanded” after refusing to fight Pakistan in 1965 war.

  • The letter has brought into notice the need of taking off the false propaganda from social media platforms since it could adversely affect the morale of current Muslim officers in the armed forces. Moreover the retired officers said Indian Army did not have a Muslim Regiment in 1965 or since.
