Dholavira, now a World Heritage site

  • In another stride for India, the World Heritage Committee approved the inclusion pf Dholavira to the list of World Heritage Site.

  • The World Heritage Committee announced its decision on Tuesday during its 44th session which is being held online from July 16 to July 31. It is being chaired by China.

  • Gujarat has three world heritage sites now- Ahmedabad, Rani ki Vav, Champaner. Dholavira will be the latest addition to the list

  • Also known locally as Kotada timba, the site contains ruins of an ancient Indus Valley Civilization/Harappan city.

  • It is one of the five largest Harappan sites and most prominent archaeological sites in India belonging to the Indus Valley Civilization
