Delhi University Vice-Chancellor suspended
President of India, Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday issued suspension orders for Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi on grounds of ‘dereliction of duty.’
The President has also directed an inquiry for the same. The move comes amid the ongoing power tussle in Delhi University.
Mr.Tyagi has been on leave since July 2 when he was admitted to AIIMS under emergency medical condition. The government had on July 17 given Pro-VC PC Joshi the charge of VC, until Tyagi resumes office.
A controversy had emerged when Mr.Tyagi had removed Pro-VC PC Joshi and appointed Geeta Bhatt in his place. During this period Mr.Tyagi was not officially back to duty.
Prior to his termination Mr.Joshi notified the appointment of a new registrar, Vikas Gupta, whose interview had been completed and appointment cleared by the executive council on Wednesday.
However, the same day, Tyagi had approved and notified the appointment of P C Jha as acting registrar and director of the South Campus, without the prior approval of the executive council.
