Delhi Riots accused denied bail plea on a claim to be suffering from schizophrenia

  • A Delhi court has declined to give temporary bail to a riot suspect who claims to be suffering from 'paranoid schizophrenia,' stating that it is impossible to rule out the likelihood that he is feigning illness to get out of prison.

  • Mohd Salman filed an application for temporary bail, claiming that he suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and wants to be referred to a higher psychiatric center for further treatment. Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Yadav was hearing the case.

  • The judge dismissed the application and stated, "The possibility cannot be ruled out that the applicant has been making conscious and persistent efforts to somehow come out of the jail by pretending to be suffering from a mental disorder."
