Delhi HC stays trial under Delhi Riots UAPA case
On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court stayed the trial in the case relating to the alleged plot that led to the February 2020 riots in the capital's North-East district. (State vs Ors & Tahir Hussain)
In Delhi Police's plea, the order was passed by a single-judge Bench of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait challenging the trial court ordering it to provide all accused with a hard copy of the chargesheet.
It is the case of the Delhi Police that, without considering its submissions, the path for delivering hard copies was made mechanically.
Delhi Police has said that there are thousands of pages of 23 volumes in the charge sheet. It was also argued that, considering its voluminous existence, the court should have omitted the physical supply of the charge sheet and allowed the accused to review it either directly or by a court pleader.
