Delhi HC slams Delhi govt and MCD on Salary delays

  • On Thursday the Delhi High Court pulled up the Delhi government and MCD for not paying salaries to the civic staff, said grievances of employees have been reduced to a “political slugfest.”

  • The division bench comprising Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rekha Palli stated that the Delhi Government has no concern for their employees and that this problem has arisen because the government is sandwiched between the Central government and the MCD, which belongs to the opposite political party.

  • The bench has ordered the government to pay back the amount deducted or adjusted by it during the pandemic from the funds to be released to the corporation in two weeks.

  • The court also ordered MCD that the funds it receives will be utilized only for the disbursement of outstanding salaries and pensions till October 2020.

  • During the hearing the court states that it had no doubt that the Delhi government was facing a revenue shortfall but questioned the number of advertisements that had been issued during the Covid-19 pandemic.
