Delhi HC refuses to grant interim protection to digital news platforms challenging the new IT rules

  • The Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries & Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, was challenged in the High Court of Delhi on Wednesday, and the court declined to provide interim protection to the digital news sites.

  • A panel of Justices DN Patel and Jyoti Singh heard a slew of petitions, including those brought by internet news outlets like as The Quint and The Wire.

  • Nitya Ramakrishnan, a senior lawyer representing the digital news sites, asked the Court to order the respondents not to take any coercive action against the petitioners and to provide them temporary protection.
