Delhi HC orders to centre for framing laws to protect exotic animals

  • On Friday the Delhi High court has ordered the central government to frame the protection laws for exotic animals under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

  • The petition was filed by the Delhi based Animal Rights Group and the people from PETA ( People for the ethical treatment of animals), to conserve and rescue the male Hippopotamus from Asiad Circus in Uttar Pradesh.

  • According to the court's order, the rescued hippo is shifted to the Jamnagar wildlife. The hippo also received Veterinary care.

  • However, the petition also requested that the court must order the central government to reframe the laws for the conservation of exotic animals under the Wildlife Protection Act. After hearing of the case the petition was passed by Delhi HC.
