Days after withdrawing security for 424 VIPs, Punjab Govt reinstates it

• What: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab on Thursday stated in the Punjab and Haryana High Court that security of 400-odd protectees will be restored on June 7. Their security was withdrawn on May 29.

• Why: The high court was hearing a petition by former Punjab deputy chief minister OP Soni, who is among the over 400 protectees in the state whose security cover was downsized.

• Background: This development also comes days after the killing of famous Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala, a day after his security cover was withdrawn.
