A demolition drive in the Jahingirpuri area of the national capital was undertaken by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Wednesday, only a few days after communal clashes were witnessed in the area.
The anti-encroachment drive came to a stop only hours after a Supreme Court order asked for it to be ended. The SC will take up the matter on Thursday.
Politicians from the Opposition stated that the shops and houses of only one community were being targeted. Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan said the demolition of the houses of "a particular community" just to "harass" them.CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat protested the demolition by standing in front of a JCB to stop the demolition during the anti-encroachment drive at Jahangirpuri.
