As Cyclone Nivar is set to make it's descent in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, both the areas are bracing themselves for the cyclone which has been termed as ‘very severe.’ The cyclonic storm is expected to reach Puducherry either in the midnight or early morning tomorrow.
Tamil Nadu CM E Palaniswami has announced a public holiday in all 13 districts of coastal Tamil Nadu. Around 2,000 people have been evacuated from Tamil Nadu's Caddulore district.
About 1,200 NDRF personnel have been deployed in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry regions and an additional 20 teams will be at stand-by in the states of Odisha and Kerala.
Naval ships, aircraft ,rescue and diving teams have also been kept on standby.All flights at the Chennai airport have also been grounded starting 7 pm today.
Tamil Nadu is also at alert and is monitoring the water reservoirs of-Poondi, Cholavaram, Red Hills and Chembarambakkam, so as to keep a check on the rising water levels of the reservoirs, which might accelerate a flood like situation.
