'Custodians can't stomach that we don't want their approval': Jaishankar on Democracy Index
Days after two reports questioned the status of freedom and democracy as existing in India today, External Affairs minister S.Jaishankar called out their hypocrisy and stated that these are 'self-appointed custodians who find it difficult to stomach that nobody in India is looking for their approval'.
He further pointed out the supply of Covid vaccines to more than 70 countries by India's nationalist government, he asked for the contribution of these international institutions in this regard.
Jaishankar's comments came as he addressed the India Today Conclave earlier this weekend. He referred to the reports by Freedom House and V-Dem Institute. The report by Freedom House classified India from 'free' to 'partially free'. While Sweden based V-Dem Institute stated that India was no longer an electoral democracy and had turned into an electoral autocracy.
