Crisis in Chhattisgarh unit of Congress; 26 MLAs head to Delhi

  • As the leadership crisis in the Chhattisgarh unit of the Congress party is escalating, the state's Chief Minister Bhupesh Bhagel will be meeting Rahul Gandhi today for the second time in one week.

  • Along with him, CM Bhagel is also bringing along 26 MLAs from the state as a show of strength and the support he possesses.

  • Interestingly, CM Bhagel is facing a leadership challenge from his own minister TS Singh Deo, who has demanded for rotational chief ministership.

  • It is said that it was apparently on the basis of this promise that TS Deo agreed to settle for a minister post rather than a Chief Ministership in 2018, as Baghel took over the CM post.

  • Mr Baghel's government completed two-and-a-half years in office - a half term -- in June. Mr Singh Deo has demanded that the party make good on its promise, one that the party has never officially acknowledged.

  • Both CM Bhupesh Bhagel and minister TS Deo met Rahul Gandhi in Delhi on Tuesday.
