According to data released by Delhi Police, crime against women in the Capital surged by 63.3 percent in the first six months of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020.
According to the data, rape cases increased by 43% from 580 to 833 between June 15 last year and June 15 this year, while molestation cases increased by 39% from 733 to 1,022, women's kidnappings increased by 39% from 1,026 to 1,580, women's abductions increased by 46 to 159, and dowry deaths increased by 47 to 56.
Until June 15, the number of heinous crimes had decreased slightly from 2,436 to 2,315. Seven incidents of dacoity were reported in the first six months of this year, along with 196 murders, 295 attempted murders, 942 robberies, 35 riot cases, and seven kidnappings for ransom.
According to the data, Delhi saw four incidents of dacoity, 226 murders, 236 attempted murders, 701 robberies, 681 riot cases, and eight kidnappings for ransom during the same time last year.
It's worth noting that the number of riot charges has decreased substantially this year, following communal rioting in northeast Delhi in February last year in response to anti-Citizenship Amendment Act demonstrations.
