COVID-19 & Insurance Claims; Important Points

Various expenses pertaining to medication, consultation fee etc. might be covered as standard under mediclaim policies for hospital as well as home treatment. We would like to remind our readers to check the terms of their mediclaim insurance which can potentially help them in reducing medical expenses related to Covid-19 treatment.

For Hospital Treatment

  • The patient must test positive for COVID-19.

  • Patient must be hospitalised for atleast 24 hours.

  • If the patient has any respiratory problems before applying for the insurance claim, the insurer can deny the same.

  • If the patient or his/her family member/s have a travel history to the countries worst affected by COVID-19, then he or she can be denied the claim.

  • Post-hospitalisation and pre-hospitalisation expenses may be covered under your policy.

For Home Treatment

  • The patient must test positive for COVID-19.

  • The patient can apply for the claim for the money spent on COVID-19 medicines, medication, doctors’ fee, CT scan (if required), X-ray and other specific tests.

  • Tele-consultation fees may be covered under your policy.
