Covaxin shot recommended for children in India
An expert panel on Tuesday recommended the use of Covaxin, developed by the Bharat Biotech, for inoculating children between 2 and 18 years.
Bharat Biotech had submitted the results data from clinical trials in the two - 18 age group for Covaxin to CDSCO (Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation). This data was then reviewed by the Subject Expert Committee (SEC).
Junior Union Health Minister Dr Bharti Pravin Pawar stated that the government had committed that it will bring a vaccine for children soon. The SEC has recommended it and it is will be approved soon. The final approval has to be come from Drug Controller General of India.
Another potential vaccine for kids is Serum Institute's Novavax, for which the DCGI last month cleared trials for children between seven and 11 years.
