Controversy within Punjab Congress as Sidhu Targets Channi Govt for Delay in Majithia’s Arrest

  • With the Punjab Police still refusing to arrest senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia in an old drugs case, serious divisions are forming within the Congress, with PCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu publicly expressing his "displeasure" with the delays and opposition parties claiming a "weak FIR" in the case.

  • The ruling Congress party in Punjab has been beset by internal strife, the latest of which is the delay in Majithia's arrest. While the Punjab government maintains that Majithia is not in the state, it has provided Sidhu with yet another excuse to criticise his own government.

  • While Sidhu claims that Majithia's non-arrest has caused people to lose faith in the state administration, the opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claims that the Charanjit Channi government is dithering due to a "weak FIR.

  • The situation is escalating into a massive brawl between Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and the Sidhu camp, and state Home Minister Sukhjinder Randhawa has denied any purposeful delays in the arrest in response to Sidhu's jibes. If the allegations are proven, he has even volunteered to resign.
