Concerns expressed by SC over failure to follow Disability Law

  • The Supreme Court voiced its "anguish" on Monday at what it called "all governments and institutions" attempting to deny individuals with disabilities their rights under the disability law.

  • The high court order to select handicapped individuals as teachers in their schools under the disability statute was being challenged by a consortium of Catholic school administration and Catholic institutions of higher education in Kerala.

  • The HC instructed management in February 2021 to compute posts for handicapped candidates since 1996 and set aside four postings for each year.

  • According to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act of 2016, all government educational institutions and other educational institutions receiving government funding must set aside at least 3% of seats for people with disabilities.
