CM of Myanmar state along with 9,000 others take refuge in Mizoram

  • The Chief Minister's Chin state, Salai Lian Luai, has taken refuge in Mizoram, following the military coup in his country that had ousted the Myanmar's state counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.

  • Sources in Mizoram's Home Department have stated that CM Luai crossed over the border town of Champai, which is around 185 km from state capital Aizwal, on late Monday night.

  • Since the military coup in Myanmar, that took place in February, about 9,247 Myanmar nationals have entered the Indian state of Mizoram.

  • This includes, 23 lawmakers of the National League for Democracy, which is Suu Kyi's party- who have also entered India to take refuge.

  • On Tuesday, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga stated that his government has sanctioned money for the relief of people who had taken refuge in his state and that this money will be released very soon.
