CJI wants assurance from Republic TV for responsible reporting

  • SA Bobde, Chief Justice of India, today orally observed that the Court would want Republic TV and its Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami to have a sense of confidence of balanced reporting.

  • While hearing a petition filed by the State of Maharashtra challenging the order of the Bombay High Court to suspend the FIRs lodged against Goswami in June, the CJI made this remark.

  • Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing the State of Maharashtra, challenged the continuation of the entire inquiry and urged the Court to allow the inquiry to proceed, while conceding that no punitive action against Goswami will be taken. Singhvi claimed that without due warning, Goswami would not be detained nor summoned for investigation.
