CJI sends formal proposal to setup National Judicial Infrastructure Authority to Government

  • According to information supplied in the Rajya Sabha by Union Minister of Law and Justice Mr. Kiren Rijiju, CJI NV Ramana has sent a formal proposal for the establishment of the National Judicial Infrastructure Authority of India (NJAI) to provide suitable infrastructure for courts.

  • In addition to identical structures under all High Courts, NJAI is envisaged to act as a central authority in putting out the road map for planning, creation, development, maintenance, and management of functional infrastructure for the Indian Court system. The governing body's Patron-in-Chief will be the Chief Justice of India.

  • The proposal has been given to the various State Governments/UTs, as they are a key stakeholder, for their feedback on the plan's contours so that a more informed decision may be made.
