CJI Bobde clarifies controversial comments over rape case
The Supreme Court voiced its displeasure today with the "real misreporting" of a rape case hearing last week, at which it allegedly asked a rape suspect if he planned to marry the victim.
During the hearing of a petition filed by a 14-year-old girl rape survivor demanding the termination of her pregnancy, the Bench of Chief Justice of India SA Bobde and Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian clarified the situation.
CJI Bobde explained at the outset of the hearing, "Womanhood has been treated with the utmost regard. We inquired as to whether or not you want to marry. We didn't order him to marry,' "CJI remarked.
